How to Download and Install Cisco Security Device Manager (SDM) Version 2.3.1
Cisco Security Device Manager (SDM) is a web-based tool that allows you to configure and manage your Cisco routers without using the command-line interface (CLI). SDM supports a wide range of features, such as security, routing, NAT, VPN, QoS, and more. In this article, we will show you how to download and install SDM version 2.3.1 on your router.
Step 1: Check the Requirements
Before you download and install SDM, make sure that your router meets the following requirements:
Your router must have Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4(8) or later.
Your router must have at least 64 MB of flash memory and 256 MB of DRAM.
Your router must have an IP address assigned to one of its interfaces.
Your router must allow HTTPS access for SDM. You can enable HTTPS access by entering these commands in the CLI:
Select SDM-V23.zip (the latest version as of this writing).
Click Download and save the file to your computer.
Step 3: Install SDM
There are two ways to install SDM on your router: using the SDM Express Wizard or using the CLI. We will use the SDM Express Wizard in this article, as it is easier and faster.
To install SDM using the SDM Express Wizard, follow these steps:
Extract the SDM-V23.zip file to a folder on your computer.
Double-click the setup.exe file in the folder.
Click Next on the welcome screen.
Select Install SDM on Router and click Next.
Enter the IP address of your router and the username and password of the local user account you created earlier. Click Next.
Select an interface on your router where you want to access SDM from your computer. Click Next.
Select Install Firewall Feature Set if you want to enable basic firewall features on your router. Click Next.
Select Install VPN Feature Set if you want to enable basic VPN features on your router. Click Next.
Select Install Intrusion Prevention System Feature Set if you want to enable basic IPS features on your router. Click Next.
Select Install QoS Feature Set if you want to enable basic QoS features on your router. Click Next.
Select Install NAC Feature Set if you want to enable basic NAC features on your router. Click Next.
Select Install Additional Tasks if you want to configure some additional settings on your router, such as hostname, banner, clock, etc. Click Next.
Review the summary of the installation options and click Finish.
Wait for the installation process to complete. This may take several minutes depending on your router model and speed.
Step 4: Launch SDM
